Best Greek food in Silver Spring, hands down. Love this place! My favorite is the gyro platter. Love that it comes with a fresh Greek side salad and another side. Plus, the pita bread is thick and soft.

Ordered a couple of times previously and it was ok. However this last time was my final. Took two hours for delivery. They didn't call until an hour and 45 minutes after the order was placed. What is sad is that they are located about a mile away. Tried calling to on the order a little over an hour, and no answer on the their line. The driver called me around 1.75 hours after the order, but I couldn't understand him. Called the restaurant directly at two hours, and they told me they didn't have record of the order. That I should just wait and it should be here soon. How reassuring!?! Everything was soggy and pretty much inedible. ------- Update - 20 minutes after getting the food, the restaurant decided to call me back. Because of how late it was (10:15pm), I didn't answer the call. They proceeded to call back two more times, the third time I answered. The manager said it was the driver's fault and the deliver service's fault. Sorry but this just made the experience even worse.

Definitely go for the food, not the location. This is basically take out or self-serve place. We had Gyro platters and were very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the ingredients and greek salad, Even the fries were unusually good. We arrived evidently after the lunch rush at 1:10. All of the tables were dirty, and the counter person was busy sitting and chatting with women at a table. He did bring our food to the table. After that, he was loudly speaking Spanish with friends over the phone. (I speak it), and occasionally took orders. The chairs are padded, and I appreciate that.

REVIEW IS JUST FOR GYRO SALAD: The gyro did not look like it was sliced from a kebab, but was so thinly sliced it looked like turkey bacon. I paid more than $9 for a salad that had little meat, less cheese, and no flavor. The salad dressing was disgusting. GO TO THE BIG GREEK CAFE. Their gyro salads have 10x the meat, the meat is hot and delicious, and the whole thing is packed with flavor and fresh capers, tomatoes, onions and feta!

I'm a little boring when it comes to Greek food because I tend to order the same thing everywhere I go, which is a Greek salad with chicken, without the feta. The Greek salad here is great as is the bread that's served alongside. My only complaint is that the dressing is too thick and I'd prefer vinaigrette, fortunately the salad was really good without dressing. I'll definitely go back.

Went here because my friend had a lamb shank one time, that looked delicious. When I got there, apparently it was a special for a week ::womp womp womp:: So I ended up getting a gyro pita, it wasn't bad nor great. The meat was a bit dry. The service was okay. I'll probably come back when they have their lamb shank though.

Here's how a Yelp Review can fluctuate.... So I was walking down the street and wanted to get something to eat. I pass by this place. It's hole-in-the-wall small. Also ( I failed to realize) is very similar to another Greek place in the next block that is bigger. The interior is clean and looks new. Feels just right (Star Rating Rising as I ponder this review). I stand at the counter and watch as several employees either talk or go back and forth. Yet no one talks to me..... Or even acknowledges me (Ratings Dropping). Oddly enough there are no Greeks working here. Everyone is hispanic. That's not an issue, just a curious contrast to the very Greek feel. The menu is inviting, filled with very nice photos of the food offering. I like this. Yet I stand and wait and wait..... Finally the manager comes up to take my order. He notes that one of his employees failed to take my order and he kindly and professionally tells him this is no way to do business. Then he offers me a large glass of water. ***** Ratings Rise *****. My wait allows me to thoroughly review the menu and that's a good thing because I really dont know what I want and things look a little pricy. I decide on a lamb pita or Souvlaki ( I don't remember). It's $6+ so it's alright with me. I sit and wait. It's just me and another customer who's already ordered. He's been waiting longer than me *****Ratings Dropping ****** because of this and the "Free WiFi" advertised isnt kicking in. Then the same kid who the manager got on comes to me with my order. He's brought it to my table. I like this ******Ratings Go Up ******. He seems like a nice guy too. I eat my Souvlaki ( It is Souvakli I now realize). It looks fresh and is tasty but is on the small side for me and my appetite. I want more of something. I contemplate this as two cute girls walk in. Now I dont mind waiting for what I've decided on...My Greek stand-by favorite Grape Leaves. I've asked about them before and am told I can get 5 for about $6+ per menu board. It's supposed to come with an egg. Cute girls and Grape Leaves *****Ratings Rise****** But I'm waiting again and no WiFi *******Ratings Drop*****. I get my grape leaves delivered to me by the same guy and find no egg and 5 fresh but not all that great (I've had better really) Grape Leaves. I walk away from sight from the storefront and eat them. They barely last a block before they're done. Three Stars. I'm not feeling the "A-OK" in that but the "Meh I've experienced better" doesnt fit. It's really somewhere in-between. But I had to go there to find out.

The one thing this place has over "the other" Greek place is that they are open on Sundays. I'm not a meat eater, so spanakopita is more my thing. I love theirs. It's individually wrapped and the size of an iPhone. To tell the truth, it's much easier to eat with your hands than with their flimsy plastic utensils. It's priced right at $5.65 on the appetizer menu. The guy even threw in a few (3) Greek potato wedges, which were tasty, but unevenly cooked. I also had an order of their Greek Feta cheese, which had lots of cubes of cheese, and two of each; tomato and cucumber slices, and Kalamata olives. It also comes with a small piece of pita cut into eight wedges. Not bad, but next time I'd get the Fiesty feta instead. The place is clean, service is friendly, and the prices are right. I only wish there was a Greek place in DTSS to get Saganaki, then I could really shout, " Opa!"

About a 2-2.5: My husband and I came here to have an early dinner. The place itself was cute and seemed like a little hole-in-the-wall type of joint off of Georgia Avenue. They offer salads, dolmades, chicken entrees, gyros, etc. We started off with stuffed grape leaves, which were very tangy and the filling was okay. I also tried a piece of their moussaka, which was creamy and more tomato-based than cream-based. I also tried their gyro salad, which came with strips of gyro meat - however, these seemed to be microwaved and I was not a fan of the flavor at all as well as its texture. My husband had the chicken souvlaki pita, and the chicken that was used were dark meat, and there were too much of the vinaigrette dressing in it, making it a very wet sandwich. We also shared some Greek fries that came with some feta cheese crumbles and thyme - regular, freshly-fried fries with these toppings, it was just okay. Service was very friendly, and the place itself was very clean and cheery. I am glad I was able to check this place out, but not sure if I'd come back! +friendly staff

Big Greek Cafe (BGC) is closed on Sundays. Wait, don't run away from Silver Spring. About 1 block from Big Greek Cafe stands "The Greek Place" (TGP) which looks almost to be the same restaurant. I mean- look at this picture of their overhang: yelp.com/biz_photos/the-… It looks like the same restaurant- it essentially has the same menu. (WIN TGP- Taramasalata) 1. The Greek Place has Taramasalata. I went to Big Greek Cafe 4 times and tried to order Taramasalata. Finally, I asked them if they even carry it anymore (it would have been easier if they just told me this the first time). The answer, no they do not carry it anymore. But, they still do have it on the menu. TGP carries it, and it's good. Not overly salty like the downfalls of a lot of Taramasalata. (WIN BGC- Greek Salad with Gyro) 2. Though TGP's Greek salad with Gyro was decent- BGC just gives you a lot more gyro, and their gyro meat is broiled or thrown on the flat top to get that nice crispyness on the strips. (WIN TGP- Mousaka) 3. I haven't tried the Mousaka at BGC, but I can tell you that the one at TGP is AWESOME! Really really good, great flavor, surprisingly good. (WIN BGC- Dolmades) 4. This is by just a little bit. Both of the establishments have respectable dolmades. I wish they would make the lemon sauce to put over them both though. We also got the potatoes at TGP which seemed fairly old ( not fresh). Overall TGP gets four stars cause of their awesome mousaka and their delicious taramasalata. I still need to try their greek fries..

Didn't even stop to take a picture. The Greek salad I ordered with grilled chicken was amazing!!! It was huge and so fresh. We ordered delivery and it showed up super fast. My fiance ordered the Greek feast platter and it was so much food. He had some as leftover the next day!! Will definitely be ordering from them again. Hopefully I can take a picture before it's all gone ;)

This is the least enjoyable Greek food I have had. The service at this place was not very inviting. I ordered a gyro platter. What that usually means is a bed of Salad, either rice or fries, and the gyro meat layered on top. The platter usually comes with pita bread on the side. The gyro platter here is just a gyro wrap with two sides. When I expressed this to the restaurant they kept telling me that's how it comes instead of trying to please the customer. Additionally the meat in the gyro is not very good. It tastes more like lunch meat rather than the mix of beef and lamb that it should be. The gyro platter cost $9.50. I ate about 4 bites and was no longer interested.

Very rude and dismissive staff who failed to even apologize for running an order over half an hour late. I called to ask what my order status was and he said it was on its way. Didn't even ask my order name because he said he only had two orders. Inexcusable. Don't waste your time or money here

Gyro Pita $7 (3/5 NOMs). is it geeeero or gyro, This is one big gyro! Always great when even my super jaw has hard time getting the whole thing in. Gyro flavor was a bit underwhelming, tasted a bit dry. I was expecting more and in comparison I still like Big Greek Cafe gyros more. French fries are excelent, I couldn't get enough of them and they were gone in no time. I like the little side salad they give you. Made me think slightly healthier about my dinner. So many more nomnom things to try, so I just have to come back

Time/day: Lunch on a Friday, 12:30 Meal: Gyro platter w/ fries This place DELIVERS!!! ($20 min) It was pouring down rain and we were hungry in the office and recently learned they deliver. Awesome. They had the menu available on their website, which made the decision even easier. Never been here before so I went basic to test it out; got the gyro platter which contains the gyro, a Greek salad (small) and your choice of 1 side, I got the fries. The food looked amazing. The salad was Delish, the Gyro was average. It didn't knock my socks off, but it was good. The fries were okay too. Overall, not bad. I think I will try something else next time to see if I get that "wow" factor.

A Greek place that's open on Sundays in Silver Spring----YES PLS!!!! I was so happy that I could get my usual Greek salad with chicken this passed Sunday. My usual place, the Big Greek Cafe doesn't open those days. I quickly came in and made my order: Greek salad with chicken, Greek salad with shrimp and a slice of carrot cake. Now my excitement quickly died down when 25 minutes later I was still sitting there waiting for my salads to go! I mean really...how long does it take to grill a few shrimps and a chicken breast??...I know what you're thinking, it was busy so give them a chance. NO---there were three tables in there, most which had food so no excuse. The salad was what I expecting--flavorful and filling. I mean you really can't get any better than romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, feta cheese, red peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, capers and that greek dressing. Not to mention the warm pita bread. MMMMHMMM...nothing betta! Next time I'll order ahead if I need Greek on a Sunday, yes NEED Greek. Otherwise, I'd probably stick with my usual Big Greek- they got it going on over there!

We went here for lunch today and really liked it. We were worried initially because the restaurant was empty when we walked in, which can sometimes be a bad sign. But then several people came in and ordered carryout while we were there. The space is clean and nicely decorated. It's nothing fancy, but it's perfectly pleasant. The staff are all very friendly, as well. I got the gyro sandwich platter, which came with the sandwich (obviously), a Greek salad, and a side. They offer fries, Greek potatoes, green beans with tomato sauce, or rice pilaf. I was in the mood for Greek salad, so I asked for two portions of that instead of one plus another side. They happily obliged. The gyro was great; it was made with very fresh ingredients. The Greek salad was very good, too. I liked the salad dressing so much that I took the rest of it home with me! We'll be back!

You are much better going down the street for amazing Greek food. The food is mediocre at best. The Greek fries were so salty, I could barely finish half of them. It was overpriced and not that great. Trust me, four stores down the best Greek you have ever had!

  • L H.

This place was ok. I loved the texture of the pita bread. I got the chicken souvlaki platter. It comes with greek salad and a side. I chose green beans with tomato sauce, but it's actually more like green beans with tomatoes. All of the lettuce in the salad and pita was fresh and plentiful. There was only one slice of a tomato in the pita, which was disappointing b/c I love tomatoes in any sandwich. The chicken was tender and juicy. So why the 3 stars? There just wasn't enough flavor on the food. The salad barely had any dressing. The green beans had a good amount of sauce, but it wasn't really flavorful. The chicken, I think, had a good flavor, but I honestly don't remember and I ate it less than 20 minutes ago. Hubby gave it an eh: wasn't the best feta, he's had better gyros (the meat was dry), and the fries and salad weren't very flavorful. It's worth a try if you want some thing fresh, but if you're a stickler for flavor you'll be disappointed.

This Place is awesome the people are great the food is amazing and it was just re-modeled which makes it even nicer !! i always get the tilapia platter which is a tilapia fillet with fries instead of rice with salad. (personally how i like it) also a pita bread and tzatziki oh god just so good everything is cooked literally to perfection and they DO have wifi and they are open Wednesdays and Sundays for some reason it shows its closed i come here about once a week just because i love it so much ! i really recommend this place!

Very ordinary!! The restaurant itself is clean. The staff is cordial. I have eaten greek food at a few different places and this one strikes to me as average. If in the neighborhood and craving greek food, by all means go to the Big Greek Cafe just down the road!!!

I am always a fan of greek food! after trying both (why are there 2 right next to each other) I really like this one more!!! it doesn't look as nice, its been there longer I was told. But really friendly customer service, the chicken pita and potatoes are so yummy and seasoned perfectly!!! Not only did I have a great experience at the store, but they deliver to my job at Holy Cross extremely fast!!

This place is pretty mediocre. I wavered between giving it 2 stars (for the attitude and s-l-o-w-n-e-s-s) of the service, but the food was "okay". I would rate this at 2.5 stars, to me a "2" is a failing grade, and this place passes -- just barely-- if everything else is closed. We won't be back. Why you ask? - Bad attitudes and bad service. The employees looked confused. The cashier (manager?) complained about the employees as he was ringing us up. I thought my water was going to go flying when they handed it to me. It was unclear if we had to bus our own table, so we did at the end. - Not authentic. Tapatia salsa and ketchup sit on every table. Since when is Tapatia a Greek condiment? Capers on my Greek salad? Wait, what??? Not a single Greek person runs this restaurant. Not a cook, a chef, a cashier or the owner (owner's son?) looked Greek. This is not your neighborhood mom& pop shop, this is a churn out mass quantities of food kind of place. - The potatoes were CHARRED. On one side. - Cheezy decor. Tight sitting arrangements. - After we were rung up, we were overcharged for everything by a dollar or two. Maybe it's just tax. The prices on the board didn't match the prices we were charged. Who knows why. We didn't get a receipt at the end. We didn't raise it, but we will not be back. We didn't feel that we got enough food for the money we paid for it. - Long wait. It took about 25 minutes to bring out our "platter" meals, and we ordered the hummus appetizer (tiny!!!) to tide us over because we expected a longish wait based on the previous reviews. However, the staff don't seem to be able to separate out appetizer from entree, they can only work on one order at a time. They initially rang us up wrong, and I had to repeat my order. We had to go back and ask for our hummus after about 15 minutes, and only then was it brought out, eventually. The entree came out 7-10 minutes later. Part of the reason for the long wait is that they were preparing a free meal for the owner's son. That was the FULLEST box I had ever seen -- and no match for our skimpy plates. If you do decide to go, the meat is well-seasoned, and nicely cooked. The salad is fresh - the vegetables are crisp and not drowned in dressing. The fries were decent. The pitas are okay, but the hummus is weird - very garlicky and chunky, almost too dry. It's not smooth and creamy like hummus should be. You can get better in the supermarket. The restaurant looks clean and well-lit. We'll try the other Greek place next and see how it measures up.

Skip the average, go to the BIG Greek Place. I got the gyro salad which was well worth the price and quite tasty, but my fellow friend and food-blogger swears that 2 more blocks is well worth more tender lamb with greater flavor. Yelp seems to agree.

Can't recommend this place. We ordered delivery, and they got our order completely wrong and didn't deliver all of our items. The gyro meat was really dry. The potatoes my mom ordered were undercooked and crunchy. I ate my gyro, but I'm not really that happy about it and my stomach isn't either.

I arrived at the Big Greek Cafe and they were closed at 9pm! No biggie. I traveled two blocks up Georgia Avenue to the Greek Place. These two stores have pretty much the same menus but are traveling in different directions when it comes to execution. I ordered the Greek Chicken (My favorite from the Greek Cafe) roasted potatoes and green beans with tomatoes. . I like the way that they marinate the chicken in lemon juice, olive oil, oregano and other herbs. When they roast it the potatoes that they serve as a side dish are in the pan as well. Tonight the chicken was barely covered with flabby skin, dry and void of flavor as if it was missing the whole marination process. This confused me because the potatoes were full of flavor and charred brown. Just the way a roasted potato should be! The green beans with tomatoes were very acidic and over cooked. I know the place was shutting down in an hour but it was borderline mushy. The staff was extremely polite and I am giving them a start for that alone. It could have been a bad day in the kitchen . So i will just chalk it up to that.

After reviewing this place I thought, I was corrected by another reviewer and the owner contacted me to find why I did not like eating at his establishment I took off the original review and went to the right place tonight. Friendly and helpful staff! Food was delicious and yes, the fries are terrific. The meats tender and overall a very nice presentation with the food. The price ...was just right and very affordable for good fresh Greek food. It only got a 4 star rating as I would have liked to drink a glass of Retsina with it but we had water instead which was fine too. I will come back and enjoy other yummy items on the menu.

I hadn't been here in a while, but came back today. Had the lamb souvlaki platter, and though the meat was a trifle underdone by my estimation, it wasn't bad. A "platter" there means essentially that you get the main dish in a pita, a salad, and potatoes (roasted with herbs in my case, though you can choose French fries). I'd forgotten that you need to say "no onions" here, so I was picking onions out of the salad and the souvlaki pita, but that, I guess, was my fault. The menu is now on a couple of fancy screens, and I think it has more choices on it than there were a few years ago, but the important thing is that the portions are large and satisfying, and the food tasted pretty good.

Food is decent, but service is horrible!!! I've had delivery from this place three times. The first two were mildly late (took over an hour). The third took 2.5 hours to arrive. When my boyfriend called to see where the food was, the store clerk gave him a bunch of attitude and tried to claim it wasn't their fault. When the food finally arrived, it was cold. There was no apology or offer to get the food compensated. Definitely won't be ordering from here again.

If you're in the mood for delish Greek food, first make sure you have the correct restaurant because there is this place, and another not too far away called The Big Greek Cafe... My co-worker and I decided to have Greek for lunch. I was in the mood for something lighter but filling for lunch and ordered a grilled chicken while my co-worker had a gyro and fries. At first I thought I might have ordered an appetizer size salad because when we got the food back to the office my salad was SO small. After taking out the 4 pieces of bread, the salad only filled about 1/2 the round to go container. I'm a slender chick, not a big eater, so it wasn't problem for me, but if I was really hungry or it was dinner time, I would have wanted more. After all, romaine lettuce is one of the least expensive ingredients a restaurant uses right? I even looked at the menu again but, nope, the salad is not on the appetizer menu and there is only one size for it. The salad itself was unremarkable, lettuce, feta, olives, chicken etc but for $9.25 I definitely something more than a salad I could have gotten down at Panera down the street for much less. My co-worker's gyro was pretty ho hum. Like many people have previously commented, there wasn't much meat in the sandwich. The best part of both of our meals were the double fried french fries however they're nothing so special that they are worth going back for. Meh.

I'm a sucker for a good gyro and this place delivers. I'll admit, I have not met a gyro that I don't like. And this one really doesn't separate itself from the majority that I've had. With that disclaimer out of the way, the meat was very hot and delicious. And there was plenty of it. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh. I thought the wrap wasn't too thick, not too thin. Good sign that the employees were all speaking a different language. Not sure it was Greek (it may have been), but I liked it. The place is clean, in a nice location right on Georgia, and putting out the hits. I'll be back.

We came here the other night and tried the moussaka with garlic fries and the souvlaki platter with rice. Both platters came with greek salad - which was so delicious that this place is worth going to just for that. The greek fries came in second place for me because they were so yummy and were sprinkled with feta cheese (who knew that'd be such a great combo!?) and the chicken souvlaki was my next favorite. This wasn't the best moussaka I've had so I was bummed about that but the other three dishes were definitely worth checking out.

The Greek Spot was great...and then fell off entirely. Just placed a to-go order and the portions are 1/2..seriously half the size of normal. Plus, the chicken was not fire -grilled as normally. And my food was luke warm. I understand everyone has "off days", so I gave the manager a call to discuss. The manager could honestly care less. I will happily take my business elsewhere.

Liked it a lot. Definitely as good as the Big Greek Place down the road. I got a chicken souvlaki and wife got a greek salad and spanokipta. Everything was fresh and tasted great. Talked to the staff for a little bit and they were very nice people. Would definitely recommend.

You can often judge the quality of a Mediterranean restaurant by the quality of its pita bread. And The Greek Place certainly passes the test! The warm, fresh pita bread with smooth and creamy taramasalata was a perfect way to start off this casual, reasonably priced, delicious, and (fairly) authentic Greek meal. (And if you've never had taramasalata before, I highly recommend getting it as an appetizer over hummus. You can get hummus anywhere, and the taramasalata at The Greek Place is quite good.) We both got the Chicken Souvlaki Platter--a very good choice. Though there is no mention of it on the menu, all of the main dishes in the platter section of the menu are served in pita bread like the other pita sandwiches, but you get the sides as well. The String Beans with Tomato Sauce were very good. The tomato sauce added some flavor to the dish, and the string beans weren't overcooked. I was a bit disappointed that the Greek Salad wasn't a "true" Greek Salad as it had lettuce in it. Even if that were the default, I would've liked to have seen that "true Greek Salad" option on the menu. The baklava for dessert was excellent as well. I was happy to see that it had a much higher ratio of nuts to pastry than I am used to. And the pieces are massive--definitely more than enough to share, unless you want to feel the sugar crash in a couple of hours! The staff was also very friendly, and they do take-out orders. Just two more reasons to make your way over to The Greek Place.

I have mixed feelings about this place, versus the other place down the block. I actually had intended to go to my usual spot - the other place down the block and found them closed. Oddly closed, no sign showing why they were closed during normal business hours. So desperate for Greek food, I decided to take this opportunity to try out this place. And now I'm confused. I ordered the gyro salad, while my partner ordered the gyro sandwich. She of course was under the impression it would be stuffed to capacity like the other place, and felt she did not need the platter. Wrong. Her gyro was skimpy and barely had meat in it. She was unsatisfied and super disappointed. My salad itself was very fresh, flavorful and delicious. As for gyro meat, 3 slices and not your normal hearty slices. These were thin almost deli meat slices, not satisfying. I loved the salad and tatziki sauce, to be honest I would come here JUST for the Greek salad alone, and take it over to the other Greek place for the meat. The pita was good, but not any better than the other spot - I'd say they're about the same in the bread category. It was disappointing and the same price as the other place, but less fillings and most importantly - MEAT. The meat was blander here and just not fulfilling. Again, I'd come back for the salad - but I wouldn't bother paying the extra 2 bucks for the 3 slices of deli meat, in which they call the gyro meat.

So my colleagues and I constantly debate about which Greek place is better since this place and the Big Greek Cafe look almost identical, are blocks apart, and are apparently owned by two factions of a feuding family. I am #TEAMTHEGREEKPLACE they have amazing gyro's, salads with shrimp, gyro or chicken, and the feisty feta is out of this world! My mother is addicted to their fries. This place is my guilty pleasure. I'm a foodie, and have honestly never had a bad meal here. If you're in Silver Spring, check it out, it's not fancy, but it's soooo good!

I really only came to this place by a freak chance. I have frequented the Big Greek Café for a long time now. Originally just because the yelp reviews were better and while I had interest in trying the Greek Place at some point, I really like Big Greek Café and kind of developed a "if nothing's broke, why fix it?" attitude so that everytime I wanted Greek that was my default. Well, earlier this evening I got a hankering for a bifteki and decided to head there for dinner. When I got there I learned that they are closed on Sundays. "Crap," I thought, "What now? Negril? Ehh, do I really want to go through that again?... oh, well it looks like they're closed anyways." Then a little light somewhere in the back of my head lit up, "Wait... there's another Greek place here... they're probably closed as well, but it's like a block away, let me try it." To my surprise they were opened and I walked in. The place is roughly similar to the Big Greek Cafe... sort of a bizarro world version. Same blue and white with pictures of Greece decor yet it was different. More worn in. A little more cluttered and chaotic and they had three sort of out of place feeling flat screens with the menu on them. Was it less cutesy than the Big Greek Café? By far. However, something was very endearing... it felt familiar... it's worn in tackiness gave it a more authentic feel... it felt more like... Astoria. That said the staff appears to be Latino and not in the least bit Greek (same might be true of Big Greek though) so you almost want to hesitate however the best Korean chef I know is Mexican and Koreans own the Washington Post's choice for best Peruvian chicken place so those rules don't always work... plus I don't have many options here so I stick around. The menu is very similar to Big Greek but it almost feels bigger and that may be because of the pictures on the glowing LCD menu. I still had my bifteki craving so I went with that. It was good, bigger than Big Greek's bifteki and I think I liked the pita better. The meat was about the same. I would argue that Big Greek's somehow tastes a little more unique or maybe even healthy... it might be the block of fresh feta that they give you with it and more compact size; but I have no complaints about this one what so ever. Service was quick and friendly, staff seemed a little frantic and busy but were always smiling. I honestly felt more welcomed here than I ever have at Big Greek. The more homey Queens feel did a lot for me. I also think the prices were a little bit better but don't quote me on that. So is this my new favorite? Will I exclusively go here? I wouldn't go that far, but I'll definitely go back and begin to alternate between the two. I definitely think this place deserves more cred than it seems to be getting.

Quite possibly the worst falafel I have EVER had! It's got a strange almost mushy texture and a perfumey aroma. Rather than tahini (which comes on all AUTHENTIC falafel), this one was served with tzatziki sauce. Huh? The effect was that it tasted more like a vegan gyro (and not a particularly good one) than a falafel. Suffice it to say, I won't be back.

The food was really good. Te wait was a bit long, however it was worth it. We had a craving for Gyros and it was really tasty. One of the better ones I've had. We also ordered "Greek wings" I had no clue they were on the menu but we saw Someone else order them and they looked really good The wings were delicious. The service was pretty good. The lady who cooks also brings the food out. So for a quick gyro, Falafel or sweet/spicy wings, go to this place. Def will be back.

Went here by mistake. Was actually looking for the other Greek place a couple of blocks down. I knew I went to the wrong place the second I opened my carry out box and saw the chicken. The Greek Chicken was horrible. Until now, I had never seen a dry, hard chicken leg/thigh. It looked as if it had been cooked days ago and kept in a warmer for at least that amount of time. It was inedible. Would have taken it back but couldn't find a place to park. Gave it the dog.

Don't get this place confused with The Big Greek Cafe - watch the reviewers, some of them are reviewing the wrong restaurant. The Greek Place is worth traveling outside of the District for (I know, I know, it's really hard to do that, but it's worth it, I promise). The vegetables are fresh, the falafels and pitas are perfectly cooked - and, well, let me put it this way. I have a gluten sensitivity and don't eat wheat unless I want a migraine and stomach issues for 24 hours. And the falafel pita is so amazing it's actually worth the migraine. Every person I've introduced this place to has also loved it. It's a low-key hole in the wall with really, really great food. You won't be disappointed!

I just had the falafel salad, ordered on Seamless and picked up in store. It was fresh, filling, and delicious. The falafel were perfectly crispy. Wouldn't change a thing about this salad, and I'll be back for more.

This place is a bootleg version of the real thing further down the street (Big Greek Cafe). The gyros here are like the gyros you order from italian restaurants - lacking authenticity. The reason I give this place two stars instead of one is because if you're hungry and need a gyro, they got you, for lack of a better term.

My order: Bifteki Platter came with salad and fries. Was a real char broiled burger. Burger King step aside! The bifteki burger is mixed ground lamb and beef. I think they might grind it themselves it tasted so fresh! Everything was great. I ate so much I thought I might die the Death of the Exploded Stomach but managed to live to tell my tale. Tzatziki comes on the sandwich and is very garlicky, so if you share my aversion then you might want to ask for it on the side or skip it altogether. But then again im probably the only person on the planet who doesn't like garlic, so never mind.

Nice Greek carry out. Spanakopita platter was great. Reminds me of the places I used to go to in NYC growing up.

The food was good but a bit on the tasteless side. I had the felafel sandwich (one of my favorites) and was really disappointed. Luckily, I tried them on a Groupon so I didn't feel too bad about the lackluster eating experience. Oh yeah and by all means avoid the fries! They are the worst I've had in a long, long time--how do you go wrong with fries? Over used old oil perhaps?

Don't bother getting delivery at this place... it never shows up on time. We've ordered from here 3 times. The first time it took close to 3 hours to arrive despite numerous phone calls. The clerk blamed this on the online ordering system. The second time we called and it arrived in 45 minutes. Still pretty terrible. The third time the food didn't arrive for over two and a half hours - even with a phone call order and multiple check ups. It seems the food didn't even leave until over an hour after the order was placed, and then despite only having one other stop it took the delivery person another hour and a half to arrive. I tried to call and cancel after hour 2, but the line was busy the whole time, so I had to turn the little delivery girl away (yes you read that right and I felt terrible). The food is ok but its almost impossible for them to take an order, this alone takes 15 minutes when it should take 5. Honestly with such terrible delivery service its amazing this place is still in business. Obviously never ordering from here again.

Everyone argues about which is better, this place or Big Greek Cafe. In my opinion, The Greek Place is the better Greek restaurant on Georgia Avenue. Here is why: - Their Pita is ^%$# delicious. Not sure what they do to it, but it is just so very rich in flavor. Maybe I am crazy but I would almost say it is the bastard child of a Pupusa and Pita. I dub it....Pupita -Their Greek Potatoes are also very layered and rich in the flavors. They don't taste greasy or soggy or over seasoned. They are a must-try. - Excellent Greek salad - More convenient hours Yes the meat strips are probably from a box of pre-cut strips instead of sliced off a spit of meat, yes the chicken gyros are a bit dry, and yes they pronounce Gyro "Jie Row" instead of "yeeroh". Yes I don't think anyone who works there is remotely Greek. But the food is damn good. And that is all that matters right? Also let me add I have visited Greece so I know what a real Gyro should taste like (for starters it should be made with Pork as well as Lamb).

Pita is SO yummy... light and fluffy and full of flavor! Gyro is great and the guy that runs the place is just so nice. Don't forget - Discovery employees show your badge and get a discount! Hate to say this, but to be perfectly honest, I prefer the salad and fries at Big Greek Cafe.

Having reviewed the nearby Greek Café I had to try this place too! Coming to the Greek Place my first thought was how small it was. I like a cozy feel, but I don't like to sit next to the storage area for sodas. Lets not kid ourselves, the place isn't really about decor. The food was good, not great, but good and the prices were comparable to the café down the street. I had the gyro and it was a little smallish for the price and just didn't grab me as much as I'd hoped. The fries were good though! Bottom line, fast greek and in a hurry? Walk the extra 20 feet to the Café.

As so many others have said, the Greek Place is a victim of its own location. A block away the Big Greek Cafe has food that is simply better. That said--you can still get a reasonably tasty gyro here. The food is hot and the portions are generous. The Greek Place also suffers a bit from a rundown interior. It isn't a deal-breaker, but could stand for some improvement. Similarly, the staff could be a bit friendlier. All in all, these days I walk a block further south for a better dining experience.

Just got back from The Greek Place. Wish I had the option to give them zero stars. We had intended to go to our favorite place, The Big Greek Cafe. Oddly, it was closed, so we decided to try to The Greek Place. It was, by far, the WORST Greek food either of us have ever tasted. My gyro had 4 dry and grizzled pieces of shoe leather in it. The bread was tasteless , dry and hard to chew, as was the meat. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! My husband ordered the Bifteki Pita, which was also lame---being tasteless and dry with the same rotten pita. We also ordered the Falafel appetizer, which sucked. It was mealy, leaden and tasteless and the Tzaziki was a total snore fest. Plus, they served our appetizer with our meal. The only thing that wasn't horrible were the fries and they were OK at best. Being extremely hungry, we ate our food. The server came over to ask if the food was okay and we shrugged our shoulders and said, "It's OK". Clearly he realized that we didn't like it, but he didn't seem to care. I even had to ask for more Tzaziki for my gyro and I explained I needed it because my gyro was so dry. The meat was so tough that I literally almost choked on it. As if the dining experience wasn't bad enough, my husband suffered severe intestinal distress upon returning home, less than 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant. WILL WE GO BACK? ABSOLUTELY NOT. What I recommend is going a little further down the street to 8223 Georgia Avenue to "THE BIG GREEK CAFE", which is unsurpassed. We have been there countless times and have never had one bad bite. The place is clean and bright, the staff is lovely and the food is off-the-hook. The prices are very reasonable, too. "The Greek Place" however, should be avoided at all cost.

When I first walked into this place, I thought it was another Greek place that I had gone to on the next block a few weeks prior. But, I was pressed for time, so I stayed and ordered my food. That was a MISTAKE. The gyro was just ok (at best)! The chicken obviously had not been marinated, and was kinda dry and not very tasty. I was just really UNPLEASED with my food. Next time, I will make sure I go to the greek spot up the block that I know that I like!

Falafel, hummus, gyro, spanakopita...you name it, The Greek Place has got it. The new Georgia Avenue diner specializes in Greek gastrointestinal pleasures. And pleasurable it was. We headed into the small, cheery cafe and were immediately greeted by friendly staff and loud, jovial Greek music. The place was decorated in that standard, somewhat trite (albeit comforting in a strange way) Greek-restaurant style -- blue/white, white/blue as far as the eye could see. We ordered some familiar dishes -- falafel sandwich, pork souvlaki sandwich, chicken souvlaki, hummus, spanakopita (hey, we were hungry). Sat down with the kids (two -- age 4 and 1 1/2). A few minutes later the hummus and pita appeared along with the spanakopita. No little triangular spanakopita here. We got the big mamba jamba spanakopita. it looked like a monster bean burrito from El Chipotle -- except flaky and filled with spinach. Once I got over the sheer size of the appetizer dish, I cut a piece off and...yum. Flaky delightfulness. Next up...hummus. The pita bread was perfectly soft and had a little salty flavor all its own. Hummus was a good consistency...can't stand it when it's just slightly watery or thick. Also had a good garlic flavor...not overpowering. And next...falafel sandwich. Huge discs of falafel in pita. Not quite enough sauce for my taste, but I love to drown my sandwiches, salads, etc. The falafel was tasty. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but not mushy. The standout dish? The fries. These aren't your average, everyday fries. They are seasoned with...stuff. Have no idea what that stuff was, but it was kind of salty with a slight kick. But the thing that put these fries in a league of their own are was the mmm, mmm good feta cheese sauce plopped right on top. it's the perfect combo. The tanginess of the feta cuts the saltiness of the fries perfectly. There are some kinks the new spot has to work out, though. My first choice was a gyro sandwich, but they didn't have any left. Yes. I repeat, a Greek place was out of gyro meat. I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that it's a new place and they still are getting used to...things. I also had mixed feelings about the music, which was turned up to a level where we had to raise our voices to hold a conversation. On one hand, it was a bit much, but on the other hand, it perfectly drowned out the noise that is our two children. Along the same lines, I would give this place a thumbs up for being kid-friendly (loud, food comes quickly, casual, diner-like atmosphere) except that it only had one highchair/booster thingy for kids. Luckily, we nabbed it for our 1 1/2 -year-old when we got there, but the poor unlucky family that came in right behind us was SOL. More booster thingies please! Overall, though, we'd definitely hit up The Greek Place again. It was a great option for casual, spontaneous, weeknight dining.

Interesting fact: if you accidentally try to pick up an order here that you actually phoned into the other Greek purveyor down the block, they will not correct your mistake. Instead, they'll just ask you what was it you ordered, again? Then tell you it's almost ready, and then go and make it. Depending on what you ordered, your meal will probably be slightly cheaper and about 66% as good.

This place is extremely delicious, just like it's competitor down the street (which was previously affiliated). Really, really good value and great Greek vegetarian food. Like it's neighbor, best Greek food in the DC area!

A hidden gem, whole in the wall that is well worth the find. The chicken salads are incredible. 5 stars for the pita bread that is addictive and delicious. One of our favorite local finds and definitely worth visiting if you're looking for yummy greek fare.

I stop in here about two to three times a month, normally to pick up something to carry home for dinner but I do drop in for lunch sometimes on the weekends. The gyros and falafels I've had there have been fine but I really love their burgers, they're broiled and come out juicy and delicious---not the first thing I think of when I go into a Greek restaurant, but I think they do custom burgers. I've had a couple of their platters and they're a really good value because you get a lot of food for the money. It's funny too because the spanakopita is listed as an appetizer but really it's large enough to have as a meal in itself. I haven't yet had a chance to try some of the other traditional Greek dishes but I'll definitely keep coming back until I've worked through the menu.

A great place for quick and delicious Greek food. They have great Chicken Soulvaki pita and Gyro pita...I've gotten both of those in platter form and the house salad or fries that you choose to go along with it are also superb. I usually call ahead and just pick up my order. If you're looking for a fancy, sit down Greek restaurant, you won't get that here. But if you're looking for a quick place to just fill your Gyro/Chicken Soulvaki craving, forget lame chain restaurants like Lebanese Taverna that's found right down the road in the Silver Spring Downtown area, go to The Greek Place!

  • Warren G.

There were no complaints about the food. The gyro platter was satisfactory - the lamb was tender, with just the right crispness on the edges, the vegetables were fresh and tasty, and the pita was good {a little heavy for my taste}. The price point was fair I guess... high, but for Silver Spring probably average. The service was poor, bordering on abysmal. Over two minutes to get served at the counter with zero customers ahead of me, and 12 minutes to get one platter of food, fairly stinks. Neither the person who took my order nor the person who handed me the order cracked a smile, much less did anything that could be considered polite. It left a sour taste for what should have been much more highly rated food.

3.5 - my previous review had the places mixed up - Greek Cafe and Greek Place are literally a block away from each other. Both have good greek, but my favorite is by far Greek Cafe. Greek Place had adequate fries - very fresh and crispy, and the gyros had some good taste to them. However, the Greek Cafe seemed more authentic - a real Greek family. At the Greek Place, the staff were not Greek and the atmosphere was not as authentic either.

This is the original Greek place in Silver Spring and we are huge fans! My falafel pita is near perfection every time and its the best tzatziki sauce in the DC area. My husband loves the chicken pita and the platters have a ton of food. The staff are all super friendly. The only things we'd change are getting rid of any use of styrofoam, better tasting whole wheat pita bread, and using organic ingredients when possible (even just organic lettuce would be a start).

We frequently eat at the The Big Greek Cafe down the street from The Greek Place. We should haven't bothered. The portion of moussaka was tiny and the chicken kabob was dried out. We had a Social Living coupon which they refused to honor. All in all a terrible experience. Every time we go to the The Big Greek Cafe a couple of blocks down, we love it. So we won't be making this mistake again.

Been here several times now with the whole family and we are fans. Management is so friendly. Food is tasty and comes in generous portions at reasonable prices. My son cannot get enough of the roast chicken. I favor the pork and the lamb souvlaki.

By far, The Greek Place has the best falafel and gyro pitas, french fries and Greek salad. The baklava is delicious too. This is great comfort food and a good place to get an inexpensive low key meal when you're really craving a taste of Greece.

I actually came in to try this place thinking it was the big greek place which I liked. Turned out the big greek place moved down the block for whatever reason. I don't know if this little area necessarily needs two greek joints but if it works more power to both establishments. I ordered my usual Gyro platter and everything looked on point, problem is once I started eating it I was really let down. The fries which I used to love were down right soggy, and considering the place was empty is an indication that the temperature of the fat was not right so the spuds sucked up all the grease instead of the fat making the fries crispy. The Gyro itself wasn't as bad but definitely inferior to the big greek place. Both the greek place and the big greek place reviews are based on just the gyro platter... maybe if I try something else my reviews will change but as for now the edge goes to the big greek place.

I was going to write a good review, but I saw all these other in depth ones... and well they pretty much cover everything. The hummus was okay, the pita bread they give with it is perfect. Probably way more hummus than needed for the amount of pita bread though. For my main dish, I ordered the greek feast. And as the owner of another greek restaurant has pointed out to me, the meat for gyros in this country is not real gyro lamb meat and it's not high quality... but who cares? as long as it tastes good! They give a pretty large portion of food here. 2 skewers of chicken, plus a fairly large gyro and a soda for 14 bucks. There is a delicious little salad that comes with it too. Come try it out for yourself!

Good, fresh food at a decent price. Well executed falafel. Not much ambiance, but good for a quick lunch. I had a falafel sandwich, and it was a pleasant mix of freshly made falafel, crisp veggies, tzatziki sauce and decent bread. Didn't taste like they make the bread there, but it was warm and nice, so I dug it. Several small tables (each seats 2-4 people). A TV on the wall was set to a news channel when I was there. You walk up to the counter to place your order, and then they bring it out to you when you're ready. All in all, a satisfying meal.

I order the grilled chicken Greek salad at least once a month. It's huge and the dressing is great. I wish it was a little cheaper, but I can't find one as good as this anywhere else. I've had a few other dishes and none have disappointed.

Maybe I am not used to really amazing Greek food, but I was pretty impressed by the food here. I only live a few blocks from this place, but have only been a couple of times. Every time I go, I remember why I love the food so much. I have eaten at a lot of different places looking for good falafel, and while The Greek Place isn't doesn't have perfect falafel, it is really good. It isn't the nicest of places to sit down and eat, but it is good for a relaxed meal, and I think that is what gives it it's character and charm.

This place PALES in comparison to the other Greek place just a couple of blocks south on Georgia Ave. Gyro sandwich was forgettable. What little meat there was in the pita was dry. Skip this place and walk south to the other one.

A delicious hidden gem in Silver Spring that is definitely worth checking out if you like amazing Greek food. I have been here a handful of times for the falafel sandwich to go and every time it is AMAZING. Served in a warm fluffy pita with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, tahini and feta cheese. The falafel is very different from any other falafel I have had, it's softer, creamer and has a saltier more mild flavor. Since I have only ever gotten take out I can't comment on the service, but when ordering my take out the employees have always been very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very casual and typical Greek restaurant decor. The menu has lots of other delicious items to choose from, I'm a sucker for the falafel though. Can't wait to come back!

Thumbing through my Entertainment coupon book, i came across one for The Greek Place. Done, i drove downtown SS and after walking in to the place with the walls sporting the blue and white colors of Greece, i immediately noticed that every person in the place was from El Salvador... another great country with Blue and White associated with it. My coupon said "enjoy one complimentary Lunch or Dinner entree when a second Lunch or Dinner entree or equal or greater value is purchased." I ordered a Gyro Sandwich and a Gyro Platter. I was told i had to order two platter to use my coupon (which had a max value of $5.00). I explained that the coupon allowed me to order an equal or greater value item. I did. I debated this with the cashier while she kept looking at the owner who was reading the newspaper and he would repeat in Spanish, "No, he must order two platters." To be done with the dispute, I reluctantly ordered two platter and then in my fluent Spanish, told the owner that he understands the coupon differently from me and perhaps I should just order two sandwiches if the items need to be the same value. He said that he only takes the coupon if I order two platters. I'm thinking "really?" it's only a $5.00 off no matter what I order. I kept the order the same (2 platters) and after getting it wanted to complain about the pre-sliced (very thinly sliced) pressed Gyro meat. The end to this long story is that I will not revisit this place. The food was mediocre at best and the service and customer relation way below average and borderline unacceptable.

The Greek Place isn't anything fancy, but it doesn't need to be. The food is quite good, reasonably priced, and generously portioned, and they've got one of the best tzatziki sauces I have ever had.

I've probably eaten here about ten times now, and I've always ordered the same thing - the falafel Greek salad. I just love it so much that I haven't felt tempted to try anything else yet! I have dragged many of my friends and family here and the consensus is that the portions are big and the food is fresh. The atmosphere is casual, it's just a counter with a few tables, but sometimes it's really nice to eat in a no frills atmosphere. It's also a good place to get take-out from. Another benefit is that the people who run the place are really friendly. Even though you order from a counter they often check on you while you're eating to make sure you have everything you need. I'm definitely a fan of The Greek Place!

Wonderful chicken pita and their Greek salad is amazing. The staff is always very friendly and greets you with a smile. I eat here pretty often and have never been disappointed. Their yogurt and cucumber sauce is wonderful and their french fries are among the best I've had in the DC area. While I haven't tried the Greek restaurant down the street, I don't feel I need too as The Greek Place always has excellent service and delicious food. Don't be fooled by the Greek cafe, the Greek Place is closer to the Metro and has the best Greek food around!

This was my first time, using a Groupon. I was very pleased. I ordered spanakopita platter and chicken platter. Food was fresh, large portions and tasty. I will definitely go back. It is a casual atmosphere--you order at the counter. I called in ahead of time and food was ready. The Greek potatoes were huge, excellent, although too much sodium. The staff was very nice and accomodating. Platters came with a Greek salad and one side.

like everyone else has said this is one of two Greek places in a 2 block radius. My boy friend and I love Greek and thought we would try the first one that came up and it happened to be the Greek Place. We walked in and it was empty which kind of made me a little nervous, they were speaking Spanish int he back which also made me nervous. By the end of our meal the place was full. It is not authentic but it is damn good. The portions are really big and oddly the french fries are really good. I would definitely eat here again. The service was good and the guy at the counter was very sweet and accommodating. Thumbs up from this girl!

This place is good, but eerily similar to the Big Greek Cafe down the block. The only differences are that everyone speaks Spanish here and they're open on Sunday. Also, I don't understand how I got charged $15 for an $11 platter and a soda.

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
